Jose Mourinho’s long-rumoured return to the Premier League appeared to edge a step closer after claims his move away from Real Madrid was officially agreed last year.
Mourinho is said to have signed an agreement with Real in December to leave the Bernabeu this summer, paving the way for the Portuguese’s English comeback, according to reports in Spain.

His Madrid exit has been anticipated for most of their season but he has been coy on his next move. His muted celebrations and restrained comments after knocking Manchester United out of the Champions League last week fuelled speculation he would succeed Sir Alex Ferguson at Old Trafford.

Mourinho has also been linked with Manchester City, Paris St-Germain and a second Chelsea stint.
But former Chelsea assistant coach Ray Wilkins dampened Blues fans’ hopes the ‘Special One’ would replace Rafa Benitez, telling talkSPORT: ‘I think Jose will be the next manager of Manchester United. I would give the Chelsea job to someone like [Brighton’s] Gus Poyet.’
